Joyce R. Javier, MD, MPH, MS

Joyce Javier, MD, MPH, MS, FAAP is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Systems Science at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. As a pediatrician scientist, Dr. Javier is a leader in research on Filipino child health using community-based participatory research methods, concentrating on topics such as youth suicide and depression prevention and the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based parenting interventions. Her work has been funded by KL2, K23, and R01 awards from the National Institutes of Health and grants from other sources including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
Dr. Javier has served in multiple leadership roles in the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) including Executive Committee Member on the the AAP Council on Community Pediatrics and the SPR liaison on the Pediatric Policy Council. She was also recently elected as President-Elect for SPR. She has received several awards for her work including the Local Hero Award by the AAP Council on Community Pediatrics. Dr. Javier is deeply committed to training the next generation of pediatric researchers and has served as a mentor to dozens of students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty throughout her career.
